The 9 th session of UNCITRAL (United Nation Commission for International Commercial Law) discussed the revised draft set of arbitration rules for optional use in ad-hoc arbitration relating to international trade and approved the text of UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and of a model arbitration clause, on April 28, 1976.

The UN General Assembly adopted the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules by Resolution no. 31/98 dated December 15, 1976 and recommended the use of the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules in the settlement of disputes arising in the context of international commercial relations, particularly by reference to the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules in commercial contracts
